The MeLuna USA Story

How it all Started

I grew up in Germany but have lived in Texas with my family for many years. We enjoy spending time in nature and have always strived to live in harmony with it.

Having kids has been a great catalyst in taking this desire further.

Shortly before my son, Duncan, was born, I accumulated a nice stash of cloth diapers. Although the birth was the wonderful experience we had been hoping for, the recovery was anything but.

Sitting up was extremely painful. Then, one day, I decided to use a cloth diaper insert instead of a disposable menstrual pad.

The difference was immediately noticeable. I felt so much better. I was a cloth pad fan ever after.

The Quest for the Best Pad is on!

I wish I had known that much of my postpartum discomfort after my first child was due to a sensitivity to the drying/gelling crystals in disposable menstrual products. I could have spared myself weeks of misery.

I started my quest for the ‘Perfect Pad’ shortly after Duncan’s birth.

I really wanted to create a pad that would be above and beyond what was already available on the market, so I investigated new materials and perfected the actual manufacturing process. Domino pads are designed to conform to the underwear and the wearer and are not shaped like bricks like many pads on the market. They also come in a vast range of sizes and absorbencies to be comfortable for many different bodies and needs.

Domino Pads started as a one-woman operation. Demand for the pads has grown beyond what one person could create.

Our excellent seamstresses, Liz and Tonia, are now making the pads for you.

After years on the market, Domino Pads have undergone several refinements. But we never stop thinking about how to improve them, and we are always open to suggestions.

Some of our best ideas have come from customers!

Next Up: The Search for the Best Menstrual Cup

As the kids grew, it was time to return to my hobbies!
For several years, I managed a women's outdoor group. My goal was to make the outdoors accessible for beginners in a safe and supportive environment.
Our offerings included hiking, indoor climbing, kayaking, archery, and more.

I also pursued active hobbies on my own, such as martial arts (aikido and taekwondo), CrossFit, and horseback riding.

As much as I loved my pads, it was time to expand my selection of reusable menstrual products.

I was excited to try the most common menstrual cup brand then, but unfortunately, I did not fit neatly into the 2-size concept. I loved the idea, but the fit could have been better as the cup seemed too long to be comfortable.
After much research, I found my goldilocks in MeLuna menstrual cups. I loved the concept of having a customizable menstrual cup that would fit any body rather than ask users to choose between limited options.
MeLuna menstrual cups perfectly extended our approach to tailor-made period solutions.

When I inquired with Frank and Astrid at MeLuna headquarters in Germany about bringing MeLuna to the US, we discovered that achieving FDA clearance would be quite an undertaking.

I managed the necessary application process, and after one year, the US version of the MeLuna cup received clearance by the FDA in 2014. MeLuna USA cups are explicitly made for our company, MeLuna USA, to meet and exceed FDA standards. Both the manufacturing facility in Germany as well as our headquarters here are subject to FDA inspections.

Reusable menstrual products are my passion, and our highly customizable pads and cups are the best on the market.

If you contact me via chat, you reach me, the owner and CEO of MeLuna USA, not a sales clerk. I will provide honest feedback to help you find your best fit in any of our products.

In the rare event that we do not have a product that best serves you, I will likely be able to point you toward a brand that might suit you better.

I know you have many choices regarding reusable menstrual products – Thank You for choosing us!

Why this kit helps

Many patients ask about menstrual cups but struggle to understand how sizing and firmness affect comfort and fit. Physical samples make these conversations faster and clearer, without adding time to appointments.

  • Helps patients visualize fit, especially with a low cervix or pelvic floor changes
  • Reduces confusion around firmness and comfort
  • Supports informed decisions during counseling visits
  • Works well for clinical teams and patient education staff

What’s included

  • Sample cups to demonstrate height, diameter, firmness, and handle styles
  • Clinic-friendly educational materials for patient conversations
  • A simple way to explain options in under 2 minutes

What makes MeLuna different

MeLuna cups are designed to reflect real anatomical variation. Patients can adjust one variable at a time when fit is close but not quite right. This reduces trial and error and keeps counseling straightforward.

Customization options

  • Cervix height options: average, low cervix, high cervix
  • Firmness options: 2 levels
  • Handle styles: 3 options
  • Diameters: 4 sizes

“We love that the MeLuna Classic is available in four sizes to accommodate people of different heights, athletic backgrounds, and vaginal-birth histories. The MeLuna, which is made of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), is also available in a firmer version and with three handle options. It can be folded the most ways yet it pops open easily. A lot of people in menstrual cup land talk about finding your Goldilocks cup, the one that fits you just right. Though all the cups we tested come in at least two sizes, MeLuna offers more options when it comes to pinpointing the size and firmness of your cup, as well as stem style. That means that you can change just one variable at a time when you’re trying to figure out what works best for you, instead of starting all over again with a totally new cup if one aspect isn’t perfect..”
