Does Your Menstrual Cup Need To Be Replaced?
When does your menstrual cup need to be replaced?
Menstrual cups last for many years but will eventually need replacement.
There's no expiration date on cups. The signs it's time to replace your cup are purely physical.
Two types of changes could occur:
- Changes that make it impossible to wear and use the cup
- Changes that would make it unsafe to use the cup because areas that trap bacteria have developed
Here are a few points to watch out for:
- The cup shape has been permanently altered for example by melting it during disinfection in a pot
- The cup has developed tears for example turning your cup inside it caused stress to the bottom of your cup and created micro tears
After loving your MeLuna menstrual cup for a few years, it may be time to get a new one.
This blog post helps you identify what cup you have and offers tips on what your next best menstrual cup could be!
Menstrual Cup Identification Marks

Identifying your MeLuna Menstrual Cup is a breeze. Simply look for the two identification marks on the inside rim of your cup.
Diameter:
You can find the diameter of your current MeLuna menstrual cup abbreviated as S, M, L, or XL.
Firmness:

Additional Ways to Identify Your Menstrual Cup

You can determine additional elements on your menstrual cup by visually examining the cup in front of you.
Height:
MeLuna menstrual cups come in two height ranges: Standard and Shorty.
Shorty cups are designed for low cervix, and they are recognized by their bell-shaped appearance.
In Shorty, the height and width are very similar.
Shorty cups are about 30% shorter than our standard cups.
Standard cups are taller and their height is significantly greater than their width.
Handle Style:
Handle styles can also easily be identified visually.

Choosing Your Next Menstrual Cup:
Does your last MeLuna period cup still feel great and perform leak-free, but it's just time for replacement? Great! This page should give you the tools to reorder the model of the cup you currently have.
Your current cup seals well, but feels uncomfortable
If your current MeLuna does not leak but tends to sit too low in your vaginal canal it may be time to consider switching to a Shorty menstrual cup for low cervix.
One thing to consider is that it may be beneficial to increase the diameter by one size if you switch from a Standard MeLuna to a Shorty. For example, if you were using a Medium Standard MeLuna, you might want to consider a Large Shorty. This will ensure a great seal and preserve some volume.
Your current cup leaks
Insufficient diameter is the most common reason for leakage in MeLuna menstrual cups. Bodies change over time, and if you are experiencing leakage, it may be necessary to go one size up in diameter.
If leaking occurs only during specific activities, a firmer cup could also be a good option to wear for those activities. A firmer cup provides better support and seal, making it ideal for activities like swimming or intense workouts.
