Learn to Remove Your CupIs your new cup not feeling quite right?
Start with these steps:
Do not worry if everything does not go perfectly at first. Most new users experience one or two challenges while learning. Start with the suggestions below.
Try another fold, such as the Punch-Down Fold, or gently rotate the cup after insertion.
Try inserting the cup slightly higher or repositioning it.
If appropriate, you may trim the handle. If you have the Stem handle only trim to the first knob and test the cup again before trimming more.
Bear down gently, pinch the base of the cup to break the seal, then slowly wiggle it out. Do not pull on the handle alone.
Stay calm. Your cup cannot disappear inside your body. Relax and bear down gently until the cup moves lower and you can reach it.
Check that the cup is fully inserted and reposition it slightly. A properly positioned cup should not cause pain.
Menstrual cup leaks can have several causes. Use our detailed guide to identify the most likely cause and find the right solution.
Cup Leaking? Start HereClick any question below to see the answer. It is normal to need time, practice, and a few small adjustments while learning to use your cup.
Your first few attempts may include:
Yes. A tiny amount of water-based lubricant around the rim can make insertion much easier.
Use only a small amount so the cup does not become difficult to hold. We recommend Sliquid water-based lubricant.
Take a break if you are becoming tense or frustrated.
Avoid pulling on the stem, ring, or ball handle alone. The handle helps you locate the cup, but the seal should be released at the base before removal.
For your first period, we recommend:
You may wear your cup for up to 12 hours, depending on your flow. Empty it more often when needed.
During your first cycle, emptying it every four to eight hours can help you learn how quickly your cup fills.
You should not feel pain or significant discomfort. If you can feel the cup, try repositioning it slightly.
If the cup feels too long, check that it is fully inserted. Depending on the cup model and your anatomy, trimming the handle may also help.
Yes. You can sleep while wearing your menstrual cup.
Empty and clean the cup before bed when needed, and do not wear it for longer than 12 hours.
Yes, most users can urinate normally while wearing a menstrual cup. However, everybody's anatomy is different.
Depending on your anatomy, it may be normal to prefer removing the cup for restroom visits. You may also find that repositioning the cup makes urination more comfortable.
If the cup makes it difficult to empty your bladder completely, remove or reposition it. You should not have to strain to urinate.
Absolutely. MeLuna cups are designed to stay securely in place during walking, running, swimming, yoga, cycling, weightlifting, and other activities.
If you experience leaking during exercise, make sure the cup is fully open and positioned beneath your cervix.
No. Your menstrual cup cannot get lost inside your body.
Your cervix forms a natural barrier and prevents the cup from traveling beyond the vaginal canal.
If the cup moves higher than expected, relax and bear down gently until it moves lower and becomes easier to reach.
Minor leaking can happen while you are learning. Common causes include the cup not opening completely or the cup sitting beside the cervix instead of beneath it.
Both positioning and opening the cup usually become easier with practice.
Leaks can have several different causes. Use our menstrual cup leak troubleshooting guide to identify the most likely cause.
